Russian LGBTQI+ activist Yan Dvorkin has been fined
Russian LGBTQI+ activist Yan Dvorkin has been fined for violating Russia's anti-gay propaganda law.
Moscow court ordered Dvorkin, leader of the "Центр Т" group that defends LGBTQI+ rights in Russia, to pay 100,000 rubles ($1,260) for promoting homosexuality.
Dvorkin, who pleaded not guilty, was accused of "gay propaganda" by Moscow's child protection services, who monitored his adopted child and his online description of his relationship with his partner. Dvorkin stated on Telegram that he will not pay the fine.
The law, which bans promoting homosexuality to minors, has been criticised by human rights groups for being discriminatory and violating freedom of speech.
