Openly gay Wes Streeting has become Britain's new health minister

The new composition of the Cabinet of Ministers has been announced in the UK.

Labor Party leader Keir Starmer, who officially took office as Prime Minister of Great Britain on July 5, announced the composition of his cabinet. Openly gay Wes Streeting has been appointed Minister of Health and Social Development.

Streeting came out as a gay man while still at university. He is married and lives with his husband Joe Dancy. Streeting has served as Member of Parliament for North Ilford since 2015 and was part of the “shadow government”.

At the same time, PinkNews notes that Streeting’s appointment is causing concern among LGBTQ activists. He has previously signalled his support for plans to restrict trans women's access to NHS women's wards. In his opinion, transgender patients should be placed in “separate rooms.”
