Football referee proposes to boyfriend at Cologne stadium

On January 30, during a match for FC Köln in Cologne, Germany, football referee Pascal Kaiser proposed to his boyfriend Moritz on the field, to a standing ovation from the fans in the stadium.

The proposal took place at the RheinEnergieSTADION during a break in the match. Pascal Kaiser knelt down and presented the ring to Moritz, then hugged and kissed, as the stands showed their support. The club posted on its official Instagram account, saying that the proposal was made with the support of the club.

The event has drawn attention in terms of LGBTQI+ visibility in German football.

According to the club, Pascal Kaiser came out as bisexual three years ago and is a loyal fan of the Cologne club. The proposal on the field was intended to highlight both the visibility of a personal relationship and the possibility of inclusion in sport.
