Harris backs Africa’s LGBTQI+ community

US Vice President Kamala Harris has voiced her support for LGBTQI+s in Africa during a press conference in Ghana. This was reported by Pink News.

The statement comes after Uganda recently passed a bill criminalising individuals who publicly identify as LGBTQI+. The new law has been widely criticised for its draconian measures, which include the possibility of a death sentence for those found guilty of “aggravated homosexuality”.

Harris spoke alongside Ghana's president, Nana Akufo-Addo, and stressed the importance of treating LGBTQI+ issues as a human rights matter. She also emphasised her commitment to fighting for equality and freedom for all people, including the LGBTQI+ community.
