Cook Islands decriminalised homosexuality
In a historic move, the Cook Islands has become the latest country to decriminalise homosexuality.
The LGBTQI+ residents in the South Pacific island state are now celebrating after the parliament voted to remove a law that prohibited "indecent acts between males".
The newly introduced Crimes Amendment Bill, which will come into effect on 1 June, nullifies and removes the law.
The bill also notes that the decriminalisation is a result of growing acceptance of LGBTQ+ people in the Cook Islands.
The LGBTQ+ community in the country has hailed the move as a significant step towards equality and inclusion.
