"Face to Face with the State: LGBTI+ and Police Departments" - Film Screening

Today, on May 17th - the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia, Nafas LGBTI Azerbaijan Alliance and Qiy Vaar! have organised a film screening titled "Face to Face with the State: LGBTI+ and Police Departments." The film's author is Sevgi Ismayilbeyli, and the project coordinator is Narmin Shahbazova.

This film was created with the financial support of Nafas LGBTI Azerbaijan Alliance as part of the "LGBTI+s Demand: Mental Health and Justice" program, which was implemented through a small grants competition.

The event was opened by LGBTI+ rights activist Cavid Nabiyev, who spoke about the significance of May 17th and highlighted that two podcast episodes dedicated to this day have also been prepared for the audience's attention.

Narmin Shahbazova, the coordinator of the film, discussed the challenges and discrimination they faced during the filming process. "We have encountered homophobia at every stage before coming here," she said.

Subsequently, the author, Sevgi Ismayilbeyli, shared her sense of responsibility while preparing the film and the excitement that the first film experience brought.

After the screening, the guests, along with social workers, activists, and psychologists, analysed the legal problems faced by LGBTI+ citizens.
