Gay man was attacked in Baku

In a shocking incident that occurred approximately 10 days ago, a gay man identified as Okush was viciously attacked in Baku, the capital city of Azerbaijan. Okush fell victim to a violent assault when an individual, pretending to be a customer, entered his place of residence in the Khoshakhasan village and struck him on the head with a screwdriver.

The LGBTQ+ community, through Minority Azerbaijan, reported this incident, bringing attention to the continued violence and discrimination experienced by LGBTQ+s in the country. This distressing event serves as a stark reminder of the significant challenges faced by the community and the urgent need for greater protections and acceptance.

The attack on Okush underscores the importance of addressing the prevailing hostility towards LGBTQ+s in Azerbaijan. The incident further highlights the troubling reality that LGBTQ+ rights are not adequately protected, resulting in vulnerability and fear within the community.

Azerbaijan's LGBTQ+ community has long been subjected to various forms of discrimination and violence. The country's position on the Rainbow Map, compiled by the ILGA-Europe organization, ranks at the lowest position, 49th, reflecting the current struggles faced by LGBTQ+s in Azerbaijan. This alarming ranking calls for immediate attention and action to ensure the safety and well-being of all citizens, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
