Bundestag gives Georgia and Moldova the rating “safe”

Despite protests from LGBTI+ organisations, Bundestag gives Georgia and Moldova the rating “safe”.

Although queer organisations repeatedly warned that Georgia and Moldova were not safe for LGBTI+, the Bundestag recognised the former Soviet republics as generally safe.

According to Bundestag Vice President Petra Pau (Left party), the German Bundestag voted on Thursday afternoon with the votes of the traffic light factions, the Union and the AfD for the inclusion of Georgia and the Republic of Moldova in the list of "safe countries of origin".

Only the left-wing faction voted against it. If the Federal Council also agrees, Germany could more easily deport refugees from these two countries.
