Journalist Sevinc Vaqifqizi received the "Nargiz" award
The journalist Sevinc Vaqifqizi has received the "Nargiz" award, which was accepted by her mother, Ofelya Meherramova. The award, established in memory of the late activist Nargiz Yaqublu, was presented to journalist Sevinc Vaqifqizi in 2023.
Sevinc Vaqifqizi, currently in detention, is the editor-in-chief of "AbzasMedia" and faces charges of smuggling. She claims that her arrest is solely related to corruption investigations. Depending on the charges against her, she could face imprisonment ranging from 5 to 8 years.
The announcement of the award being given to Sevinc Vaqifqizi took place today, on December 23rd, during a ceremony at the headquarters of the Musavat Party. The award was presented to Sevinc Vaqifqizi's mother.
The "Nargiz" award was established in 2015 in memory of Nargiz Yaqublu, a young activist who passed away from hepatitis.
