Stonewall Day - an important event in LGBTQI+ history

Today we celebrate Stonewall Day, an important event in LGBTQI+ history.

On June 28, 1969, police raided the Stonewall Inn gay bar in Greenwich, New York.

These types of raids were common in America, but this time the community stood up against police brutality.

Over the course of six days, the outnumbered police faced resistance from the local community, including working-class people, lesbians, drag performers, gender-nonconforming people, gay men, and black trans women like Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera.

This riot ignited the modern LGBTQI+ rights movement and organisations such as the Gay Liberation Front.

The Stonewall resistance symbolises freedom and solidarity.

We, as the Minority Azerbaijan team, honour those who fought for our rights today.

We continue their legacy in our fight for LGBTQI+ freedom.
