Local queer film "Home Within" at Sevilfest

The 5th Sevil International Women's Film Festival will take place from July 5-12 this year. Several films are scheduled to be shown under the "Queer Gaze". One of them is the local director Mehriban Karimova's film "Home Within."

"Home Within" explores the challenges faced by trans folks in politically restrictive and homophobic societies. The film follows Carmen, a young trans woman, whose sole desire is to find a home where she feels safe while staying true to her gender identity. What obstacles might she encounter on this journey? Ultimately, "Home Within" is about the quest for belonging and the desire to feel at home.

The film was first screened in May this year as part of the Copenhagen Architecture Festival - CAFx.

CAFx focuses on how to design and plan cities with inclusivity in mind. Among other things, it includes a short film competition, which concluded last year with over 340 entries from various countries on the topic, as well as a wide range of ongoing cinema and architecture workshops worldwide. This year, CAFx partnered with an organisation from Azerbaijan, the Queer Art Festival Baku, to address social and environmental justice and explore and convey good practices in construction and urban planning through camera lenses.
