Latvia recognised equal civil partnerships
July 1, 2024, legislative amendments on equal partnerships for any identities came into force.
Back in November 2023, the Latvian government approved a bill on equal partnerships for everyone, then needed to wait until July 1 for the changes to come into force.
In Latvia, changes were made that approved a new and modern institution of partnership. According to the amendments, from July 1, 2024, two people of any gender and sexual identity, who are in a close relationship, have a common household and are not direct relatives or spouses, will be able to enter into a partnership with a notary.
