X platform suspended more than 200 LGBTQI+ marketing accounts

Moderators of the social network X - formerly Twitter - blocked more than 250 accounts of the English-language LGBTQI+ media outlet “Pink Media” without explanation - while there were no violations of the rules on the part of the media, and the reason for the blocking could be their growing popularity.

Pink Media is a network of large English-language media projects aimed at visibility and positive representation of the LGBTQI+ community and other socially vulnerable groups, reports The advocate.

Details of the true reasons for the blocking of more than 250 work accounts associated specifically with Pink Media remain unknown, which raises speculation about the ulterior motives of the mass blocking.

According to the official statement from media representatives, the blocking came after a successful advertising campaign during Pride month, when published content reached more than 17 million views. Pink Media noted that the role of interconnected work accounts cannot be underestimated. Each profile served as an important conduit for regional and thematic English-language LGBTQI+ content.

Pink Media President Matthew Skallerud told The Advocate: “We have over 200 profiles, and they were all shut off at the exact same moment. We just got flooded with hundreds of emails from X saying we’d been suspended. The specifics were vague; it was based on a user report, but the reason was left blank.”
