Russia tightens conditions for migrants: stay outside of politics and oppose "LGBT propaganda"

The bill was approved by the State Duma and the Federation Council, Parni+ reported. 

The State Duma and the Federation Council approved a bill that tightens the conditions of stay in Russia for foreign citizens. They will have to respect "Russian spiritual and moral values," not engage in political activities, and comply with requirements on the inadmissibility of "LGBT propaganda."

According to the bill, foreign citizens will have to comply with the following conditions of stay in Russia:

  • Treat the environment, natural resources, material and cultural values of the Russian Federation with care;

  • Respect the diversity of regional and ethnocultural lifestyles of the population of the Russian Federation;

  • Do not interfere with the exercise of the rights and freedoms of citizens of the Russian Federation, the activities of public authorities of the Russian Federation and their officials;

  • Not to interfere in the foreign and domestic state policy of the Russian Federation, including not to carry out actions aimed at encouraging the adoption, change, repeal of laws or other regulatory legal acts; 

  • Respect traditional Russian spiritual and moral values, including ideas about marriage as a union of a man and a woman, family, motherhood, fatherhood, childhood, comply with the requirements on the inadmissibility of propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations and distortion of the historical truth about the feat of the Soviet people in the defense of the Fatherland and its contribution to the victory over fascism.
