SevilFest Continues!
The 6th Sevil International Women's Documentary Film Festival is taking place from July 5 to 13 this year. Held in Baku, Lankaran, and Sheki, the festival features films submitted from around the world, along with masterclasses and discussions.
The selected films open seven different windows into women's lives—sometimes filled with silence, sometimes with screams, sometimes with delicate memories, and at other times with harsh truths.
One of the festival’s highlights is the masterclass with Laura Mulvey on July 9—widely regarded as the founder of feminist film criticism and the theorist behind the concept of the “male gaze.” In this session, Laura will speak about the early days of feminism and film culture, her theoretical contributions, and personal experiences, followed by a Q&A with the audience.
Another event that caught our attention is the panel discussion titled:
“Women Behind and In Front of the Camera: Gender-Based Discrimination in Azerbaijan’s Film Industry,” taking place on July 11. The panel will address the various challenges women face in the Azerbaijani film industry—such as unequal opportunities, workplace discrimination, and other structural issues.
Panelists include:
Irada Bagirzade – Producer, screenwriter
Parvana Hasanova – Cinematographer
Gunay Mehdizade – Actress
Moderator: Vafa Khanlar
