Teens accused of “gay propaganda” over prank in Moscow monastery.
Moscow police have detained three teenagers after a complaint from Ekaterina Mizulina. Two of them are now facing charges of "LGBTQ+ propaganda", though only one of the three is over 18.
According to TASS, citing the Moscow Interior Ministry’s press office, the three young men were arrested for a “provocative” video in which they attended a service at the Sretensky Monastery wearing women’s clothing and “harassed believers and clergy with offensive jokes”. The incident took place back on July 18.
On July 28, Ekaterina Mizulina, head of the “Safe Internet League” (not a government body), published video messages from the teens and referred to them as a “group of transgender people”.
The pranksters were detained today, July 29. The Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that two of the three are minors. Charges under Article 6.21 for “propaganda” have been filed against two of them — the adult and one of the minors — and they are expected to stand trial. The third case will be reviewed by the juvenile affairs commission.
