Nottingham activists stage die-in against EHRC trans guidance

On 16 August, Nottingham Against Transphobia staged a die-in protest in Nottingham’s Market Square, demanding justice from the Labour government and the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC).

The action followed reports that leaked EHRC guidance could advise banning trans people from single-sex facilities, including changing rooms, hospital wards, and sports. Protesters lay silently on the ground as a heartbeat sound played, with one dressed as the Grim Reaper wearing a Keir Starmer mask.

Organisers said the protest was meant to show how EHRC and Labour policies “push trans people out of public life and towards suicide,” urging local Labour MPs Alex Norris and Lillian Greenwood to oppose the guidance.
