LGBTQI+ activist raped in Yerevan
In Yerevan, an LGBTQ+ activist and former employee of the human rights project Egida became a victim of sexual violence. According to Igor, the attack happened at night and was carried out by two people.
After the incident, he struggled for a long time to recover, sought help from a psychologist, and is now sharing his story to warn others and support those going through similar experiences.
“I want to speak out. Because silence eats you from the inside. I was raped,” Igor begins his post. He explains that it all started with a state of hypomania — writing that he “stopped being afraid,” felt a surge of confidence, and lost care for himself.
Late at night, he responded to a message in a chat: someone was looking for company to smoke, and Igor invited that person over to his place.
Igor admits he couldn’t recover for a long time afterward: “A whole week passed in a fog. Bed, work, food delivery, bed again. Emptiness became my normal state.” Only after some time did he manage to see a psychologist, and after that session, he felt relief for the first time: “I am alive, there is something inside me.”
He is now trying to rebuild daily life step by step — gradually cleaning his apartment and returning to his work rhythm. The hardest part for Igor has been accepting care from others — he often rejected friends’ offers of help or support: “My psychologist says: ‘Let people take care of you.’ But I push them away.”
Igor emphasizes that he shares his story for those who find themselves in a similar situation.
