Leigh Finke, who was elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives from the Midwestern states of the United States, became the first trans woman MP in the House.
Attorney Finke described her victory as a "turning point" for Minnesota's trans community at a time of rising anti-trans laws and violence across the country. Finke shared the following on her Twitter account after her victory:
“Our campaign was run by a small community of women & queer people, who believed in the work of representation and never swayed.
There is no way to say on social media what they mean to me. I love you all & will forever. We did something, y’all.”
