Report: London police are racist, misogynistic, and homophobic

An independent investigation into the London Metropolitan Police has found that it is "institutionally racist, sexist and homophobic, and cannot police itself."

The report's findings, which were made public on March 21, reveal widespread bullying, discrimination, institutional homophobia, misogyny, racism, and other unacceptable behaviours within the police force.

The investigation was ordered in 2021 by the former Metropolitan Police Chief following the conviction of a police officer for sexually assaulting and murdering a young woman in 1999.

The report's recommendations include the need for strong leadership, a women's protection service, and a new child strategy to address the problems. The Metropolitan Police Commissioner has apologised and pledged to accelerate work to dismiss officers more quickly.

The Prime Minister has acknowledged that trust in the police has been severely damaged and committed to regaining it.
