Azerbaijani government targeted LGBTQ people with new decision
19th February, 2019, Cabinet of Ministers adopted new decision that prevents people with several health conditions to teach at schools. The list consists of 34 conditions one of which is called "Disorder of sexual preference". As we believe this implies sexual orientation and targets LGBTQ people. It means no one except heterosexual people is allowed to teach and work as teacher.
There's no information how this new decision will be implemented. However, this is very clear that LGBTQ people who suffer enough from unemployment will be harmed even more. There are hundreds of LGBTQ individuals who work as teacher at the moment and we can assure that they are not any less successful in their profession than heterosexual people.
We also feel the need to remind Mister Prime Minister and the Members of the Cabinet that homosexuality was removed from the list of diseases in 1990 by World Health Organization. As a member of this organization Azerbaijan also adopts this decision.
