Uganda passed anti-gay bill

Uganda has passed a new anti-homosexuality bill. This was reported by the BBC. The bill could see people identifying as gay jailed for life or even sentenced to death in some cases.

The legislation also makes it illegal for family and friends to not report individuals in same-sex relationships to the authorities.

The bill has been widely condemned by rights groups, including Amnesty International, which has called it "appalling" and "vaguely worded". The US and UK governments have also criticized the legislation, and the White House has warned Uganda of possible economic repercussions.

Activists say the bill has led to an increase in attacks on gay people, and that it is being used to distract from the government's economic failures.

President Yoweri Museveni can either veto the bill or sign it into law.
