Florida may pass LGBTQI+phobic law

A controversial bill is reportedly being considered in Florida, which would give healthcare providers the right to refuse treatment to LGBTQI+s, women and minorities.

The HB1403 bill would allow doctors and insurance companies to deny care based on "conscience-based objections without... threat of adverse actions".

However, critics of the bill have expressed concerns that healthcare providers could use religious, moral, or ethical reasons to refuse medical treatment to patients, including birth control.

The bill has already been approved by the Florida House Health and Human Services Committee and will now be considered by the full house.

The proposed law has been branded discriminatory and dangerous by the Democratic leader of the house, Fentrice Driskell. Emergency medical treatment is exempt from the bill.
