Qatar intensified its persecution of LGBTQ+s

Qatar is reportedly intensifying its persecution of LGBTQ+s with a "full-blown force" just six months after hosting the men's football World Cup.

According to Qatari activist Dr Nasser Mohamed, the situation has become as bleak as ever, with arrests, intrusive searches, and a resumption of abuses against the LGBTQ+ community.

Qatar criminalises homosexuality under its penal code, and same-sex sexual activity can result in imprisonment or even the death penalty. Despite some optimism during the World Cup, the plight of LGBTQ+s in Qatar continues, with limited information available about the extent of the persecution they face.
