SevilFest Presents QueerGaze Films
Sevil, the 5th International Women's Documentary Film Festival, will showcase films with the Queer Gaze in this year's program.
The festival announces that these films, each offering different perspectives and stories, celebrate queer experiences and identities, pushing the boundaries of love, freedom, and identity exploration through the power of cinema.
Under the slogan "Unavailable in Your Region," the films presented with the #QueerGaze hashtag at the festival, which will be held from July 5-12 this year, include: “Home within” (Mehriban Karimova), "Lesvia" (Tzeli Hadjidimitriou), "Welcome to Chechnya'' (David France), and "Gigi" (Cynthia Calvi).
The Sevil International Women's Documentary Film Festival is an independent documentary film festival that has been operating in Azerbaijan since 2020. SevilFest primarily focuses on gender issues. The main goal of the festival is to raise awareness about gender-related problems through art and documentary films. Additionally, SevilFest aims to remove the barriers faced by women and queer directors due to existing stereotypes and to increase their participation in the film industry in Azerbaijan. The festival actively works to create a safe and inclusive space for women and underrepresented groups, enhancing their participation and contributions to the documentary film industry in the country.
