Thailand has become the 44th member country of the Equal Rights Coalition (ERC), an intergovernmental organisation tasked with protecting and ensuring the rights of LGBTQI+s worldwide.

Thailand has become the first Asian country to join the international organisation, which also includes member states from Europe, the Americas, Africa and the Middle East.

The Equal Rights Coalition was founded in 2016 under the leadership of Uruguay and the Netherlands, with the specific aim of reducing violence and discrimination, ending the criminalization of LGBTQI+s and promoting the human rights of LGBTQI+s.
