Photos of Trans Prisoners Taken in Prison

The head of Detention Center No. 1, Elnur Ismayilov, has reportedly been taking and keeping nude photos of some prisoners, particularly trans prisoners. This information was shared by Ulvi Hasanli, an investigative journalist and director of Abzas Media, who is currently imprisoned.

In a letter addressed to the public, he stated that there is systematic torture, inhumane treatment, corruption, abuse of power, and electoral fraud occurring in the prison. He also mentioned witnessing violations he couldn't quite name, emphasizing:

"I couldn't find a word for this issue. Maybe readers can. The warden, Elnur Ismayilov, takes nude photos of some of the prisoners who are newly brought to the prison and keeps them on his phone—especially those of transgender individuals. What kind of fantasy, law, or morality is this a product of? This man is a government official, not a minor one. He is a colonel and has been running the country’s largest prison for eight years. These nude photos are also used as a tool for blackmail against the inmates. Who knows what other ways he exploits them.”

Previously, a trans woman and former inmate, Anna Taghiyeva, had stated in an interview with Meydan TV that trans individuals in Detention Center No. 1 were forced to strip and sent to other inmates’ cells at the direction of Elnur Ismayilov, using them as a means to blackmail other prisoners.

Former political prisoner and blogger Mehman Huseynov also disclosed on his YouTube channel that the administration of the detention center used trans individuals for blackmail purposes.
