The November 25 Women's Platform announced that LGBTI+ activists Ali Malikov and Parvin Alakbarov, who were detained on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women in Istanbul yesterday, are facing the threat of deportation. The Platform said that it received information that Malikov and Alakbarov will be taken from the Vatan Police Department to the Arnavutköy Repatriation Center today.

Nina Babazade, a friend of Malikov and Alakbarov, spoke to the Etkin News Agency.

Babazade said, "Ali was an LGBTI+ activist in Azerbaijan. They had to come here. There was a risk of arrest. They are also a student here. Pervin also applied for a residence permit but it has not been finalized yet." Babazade stated that Malikove and Alakbarov were detained in Şişhane Square before the march even started, and said: "We had a very short phone conversation yesterday. They handcuffed them behind their backs, they were beaten while being taken away. They were also subjected to violence while in custody. Ali is sick, he asked for his medication but they did not give it to him."

Babazade said that Malikov and Alakbarov will be taken to the GGM today and will be held for two days and then brought to court.
