Erdogan: “The LGBT movement has turned into a form of fascism and oppression”
Recently, the International Family Forum was held in Istanbul, focusing on the country’s declining birthrate. Recep Tayyip Erdogan once again chose to blame the LGBTQI+ community for it all.
According to Erdogan, the LGBTQI+ movement threatens national security, and that’s why the Turkish government “will fight it with full determination.” Moreover, for Erdogan, the fight against LGBTQI+ people is a struggle for “the dignity, freedom, and future of humanity.”
“This deviant movement called LGBT has turned into [a form of] fascism and oppression that rejects any other ideology (…) Although some opposition parties and women’s organizations support this deviant movement, degenderization projects threaten our national security,” Erdogan was quoted as saying by the media.
Erdogan also stated that “artists, businessmen, politicians, and scientists are being lynched and turned into living corpses just for criticizing the LGBT scourge.” As a result, Erdogan proclaimed 2026–2035 as the “Decade of Family and Population” in Turkey.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan frequently makes homophobic statements. He claimed to see rainbow flags where there were none, declared war on “perverted tendencies,” called Eurovision a disgrace for “promoting gender neutrality,” and refused to attend the Olympics’ opening due to supposed “LGBT propaganda.”
