US Congresswoman Maxine Dexter: “Every day I will fight for the LGBTQI+ community”

US Congresswoman Maxine Dexter has opposed the ban on LGBTQI+ flags in the military.

Dexter, a Democrat representing Oregon’s Third Congressional District, objected to the amendment introduced by Republicans into the national defense budget that bans LGBTQI+ flags at Department of Defense facilities.

According to PinkNews, during debates on legislative changes—including provisions banning gender transition healthcare for trans service members and their dependents, as well as the LGBTQI+ flag ban introduced by Cory Mills—Dexter took the floor.

Placing a small LGBTQI+ flag on the podium, the congresswoman said she considered Mills’ proposal “cruel and callous.”

“There are 20 days until the government shuts down. Eight legislative days. And what are Republicans focusing on? Flags! Pride flags! Republicans are spending valuable House time—time that could be used to reduce costs for working families—on flags…”
