"I was kicked out of the house just because I was wearing earrings"

"Get out of my house!" — Rüzgar Aliyev was discriminated against while looking for a house to rent

Rüzgar Aliyev wrote to us on social media:

"The other day, I was looking for a new house, I found the house and I talked about it - I was fine with everything. The same was true of the house owner. The person we met was the owner of the house, not a realtor. Fortunately, we already had a meeting, so we went to look at the house. We entered the house as soon as we got out of the taxi, and he greeted us. The first friend saw me, my friend had earrings in both ears. He said, 'What is that?'  - he said, suddenly 'Stop, s...rin... get out of my house!' and addressed us with other curses. We were shocked by the incident, he kicked us out of the house. We couldn't react either, that is, we didn't expect it at all."

LGBTQI+s still face open discrimination, insults and violence when finding rental housing in Baku and other parts of the country.

LGBTQI+s are forced to hide their identities when looking for housing, and sometimes rent under a different name or through an intermediary for fear of danger.

The case of Rüzgar is not the story of one person — similar incidents have been recorded many times.
