The film Pillion receives three BAFTA nominations
The British-produced film Pillion, which explores gay BDSM themes, has been nominated in three categories at the 2026 BAFTA Awards. The list of nominees was announced on 27 January.
The film is competing in the categories of Outstanding British Film, Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer, and Best Adapted Screenplay. Pillion was written and directed by Harry Lighton and is adapted from the novel Box Hill by Adam Mars-Jones.
The film stars Alexander Skarsgård and Harry Melling. In the story, Melling’s character Colin enters into a relationship with Ray, portrayed by Skarsgård; the film examines themes of dominance, intimacy, consent, and personal boundaries from a queer perspective.
Although Pillion was highly praised by critics, it had previously failed to secure nominations at major awards ceremonies such as the Golden Globes and the Academy Awards. The BAFTA nominations indicate that the film has now received formal recognition within the British film industry.
