“Democracy cannot thrive where discrimination persists”
Today, 17 May, on the occasion of the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT), the European Union Delegation and EU Member State Embassies have issued a joint statement reaffirming their commitment to the equality and dignity of LGBTQI+ people.
The statement reads:
“Today, on the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT), the EU Delegation and Embassies of EU countries stand firmly for equality, dignity and the full enjoyment of human rights by LGBTI persons everywhere. Democracy cannot thrive where discrimination persists. Upholding equality means combating all forms of violence, stigma and exclusion, online and offline. The EU remains committed to supporting civil society, defending human rights, and working towards inclusive societies where no one is left behind.”
