Activists demand protection for Azerbaijani queer activist Nana Babazadeh

“We live under the threat of deportation”

The Migrant and Refugee Solidarity Network and the Freedom for Nana Platform shared with the public the rights violations faced by Azerbaijani queer activist Nana Khanim Babazadeh, both in Turkey and after deportation.

The rights violations faced by Azerbaijani queer, feminist and vegan activist Nana Khanim Babazadeh (Nana) were brought to the public's attention at a press conference held in Istanbul.

At a meeting organized by the Migrant and Refugee Solidarity Network and the Freedom for Nana Platform at the Istanbul branch of the Human Rights Association (IHD), details were shared about all the ordeals Babazadeh went through, from her time living in Turkey and her deportation to Azerbaijan to the subsequent security problems.

According to Bianet, the statement issued by the platform noted that Babazadeh had become a target for her work in the fields of women's rights, LGBTQI+ rights and animal rights, and described her experience as an example of the mechanisms of repression used against human rights defenders.
