Government calls to cancel Tbilisi Pride
Government representative in Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze called to cancel Tbilisi Pride 2021.
The pride organisers demanded “the government to fulfill its obligations and ensure ALL its citizens have the freedom of expression and assembly.”
The organisers of pride that will take place on 1-5 July, made a statement saying “Instead of calling for the week to be canceled, the government should guarantee a safe environment for the LGBTQ+ community”.
The organisers also said Irakli Kobakhidze's call for Pride Week to be canceled is a dangerous precedent for the entire society and his call “is an open statement that the Government only protects its citizens' constitutional rights selectively & according to its political interests.”
Tbilisi Pride 2021 will take place during 1-5 July, consisting of events, including: Queer Fest and March for Dignity.
