Coldplay frontman Chris Martin responds to controversy surrounding Malaysian concert

Coldplay's lead singer, Chris Martin, has directly addressed the recent controversy surrounding the band's upcoming concert in Malaysia. Earlier this month, it was announced that the British band would be performing in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia's capital, on November 22.

While the announcement was met with enthusiasm from Malaysia's Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim, opposition MP Nasrudin Hassan, leader of the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), called for the cancellation of the concert. Hassan cited Martin's previous support for LGBTQ+ rights, including being photographed with Pride flags.

In a recent interview with Malaysian radio station HITZ, Martin expressed an inclusive message. He emphasised that Coldplay welcomes everyone to their show, regardless of their background, religion, or beliefs. He stated, "We love all people, all kinds of people, all religions, all leaders, all followers – nobody is excluded. We want you to come to our show and feel free to be yourself and let everybody else be themselves."

Martin also extended a message of love and understanding to those who may not agree with the band's performance in Malaysia. He said, "Anyone not happy that we're coming, we're so sorry, but we love you too."
