Uganda passes harsh anti-LGBTQI+ bill

Uganda's parliament has passed a revised version of its Anti-Homosexuality Bill, retaining severe measures despite some alterations.

The bill no longer criminalises LGBTQ+ identification as recommended by President Museveni, citing constitutional concerns. However, the legislation still includes a death penalty for "aggravated homosexuality" and permits imprisonment for advocating LGBTQ+ rights.

Human rights advocates express disappointment and call for the protection of LGBTQ+ rights in Uganda.
