Man Jailed for Killing Gay Student Scott Johnson in Sydney

Scott White, who admitted to the 1988 murder of gay US student Scott Johnson in Sydney, has been sentenced to jail for a second time.

After initially receiving a 12-year sentence, his conviction was overturned, leading to a retrial. White has now been sentenced to nine years in prison, with six years without parole for manslaughter.

Johnson's death was determined to be a likely homophobic hate crime following a coroner's inquest in 2018.

Johnson's brother expressed relief, stating that the sentencing brings closure to their family.
