Lesbian artist was arrested in Russia

Artist Sasha Skochilenko was sentenced to seven years in the case of “fake news” about the army.

Artist Sasha Skochilenko was sentenced to seven years in prison in the case of “anti-war price tags.”

In the spring of 2022, she placed anti-war leaflets, stylized as price tags, in Perekrestok stores, after which she was arrested following a denunciation. In total, 29 hearings were held in the case of Sasha Skochilenko; the prosecutor asked to sentence the activist to eight years in prison.

“Even though I’m behind bars, I’m freer than you.” I can make my own decisions, I can say whatever I think, I can quit my job if I am forced to do something that I don’t want - from Sasha’s last word.

Sasha Skochilenko is an open lesbian, an activist who defends the interests of the LGBTI+ community and the femme movement; collaborated with independent media. The international human rights organization Amnesty International declared Skochilenko a prisoner of conscience, and the Memorial human rights center recognized her as a political prisoner.
