Drag queen participated in the High Level Political Forum

Peruvian/Dutch drag queen Envy Peru, winner of "Drag Race Holland”, and head judge of “Make Up Your Mind" is entering the United Nations (UN) as one of the first drag queens ever during the 2024 High Level Political Forum (HLPF) a political event where world leaders discuss the implementation of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The COC Netherlands shared about it on their LinkedIn account.

"Drag is a form of self-expression and political activism that contributes to diversity and inclusivity and embodies the concept; leave no one behind," says Envy Peru.

As part of her presence in New York, Envy Peru hosted the Power of Pride event "A Queer Future of Care." Along with activists from Armenia, Kenya, Namibia, Nepal, Uganda, and Zimbabwe, they share stories from their lives and dream of an inclusive future.

This event was organized by COC Netherlands, Pan Africa ILGA, ILGA Asia, ILGA World, UN Women, UNDP, and the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the United Nations.

Drag has the ability to confront socioeconomic and political narratives. In addition to being an art form it is also a type of resistance and there are politics linked to drag. Introducing drag to the UN serves as a powerful reminder that our world needs a queer future rooted in care.
