Erdoğan and the Directorate of Religious Affairs target the opening of the Paris Olympic Games

In his statement targeting LGBTQI+s, Erdoğan said, “The LGBT lobby has taken the West captive.” The Directorate of Religious Affairs targeted the opening with the words, “it has turned into a show of a perverted mentality.”

President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan targeted the Paris Olympic Games opening at a meeting he held with AKP provincial chairmen on July 30. Describing the ‘Last Supper’ parody at the Olympic Games opening as ‘immorality’, Erdoğan targeted LGBTQI+s.

Stating that he was invited to the Olympic Games opening but his grandson said, “Grandpa, don’t go. There’s an LGBT show going on there,” Erdoğan made the following statements:

“The immorality staged at the Paris Olympic Games opening once again revealed the dimensions of the threat we face. Macron invited me. I said I could come. My 13-year-old grandson said, ‘Grandpa, don’t go. There’s an LGBT show going on there.’”

Saying that he would call the Pope for the opening show, Erdoğan used the expressions “LGBT lobby” and said, “What was attempted in Paris was a project to bring down the honourable creature, humans, even to animals. The disgraceful scene in Paris offended not only the Catholic world, not only the Christian world, but also us as much as they did. "I will call the Pope about this at the first opportunity. I will share with him the disrespect shown to the entire Christian world. The LGBT lobby has taken the West captive," he said.

According to reports in the French press, it was revealed that Erdoğan was not invited to the opening ceremony.
