USA bans trans women from competing at the Olympics
The United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) has banned transgender women from participating in women's competitions, according to a report by the Associated Press, citing the official USOPC website.
The changes were made to USOPC’s safety policy. The word "transgender" does not appear in the updated regulations. Instead, the document states that the new rules are “intended to ensure a fair and safe competitive environment for women” — a formulation borrowed from Trump-era executive orders.
The President of the United States has been consistently limiting the rights of transfeminine people. Transgender girls and women have already been banned from participating in competitions funded by the U.S. government. These restrictions are also being extended to other areas of life, such as military service.
The updated rules were not only published on the website of the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee. The organization also sent them to national sports federations, instructing them to revise their own safety policies accordingly. At the same time, USOPC has made no public comment or explanation regarding these changes.
