Trump Administration considering transgender gun ban

According to reports, conversations began after the mass shooting at a Catholic school.

The Justice Department is reportedly considering proposals to bar trans people from owning firearms.

On September 4, CNN reported that, according to senior officials, the Justice Department could potentially declare that trans people are mentally ill and can therefore be stripped of their Second Amendment rights. One official told the outlet that the goal of such a ban is “to ensure that mentally ill individuals suffering from gender dysphoria are unable to obtain firearms while they are unstable and unwell.”

Meanwhile, in a statement to The Independent, a spokesperson for the department said that “the DOJ is actively evaluating options to prevent the pattern of violence we have seen from individuals with specific mental health challenges and substance abuse disorders.”
