VII Sevilfest Announces "Dra(q)matic" programme
Sevil International Women's Documentary Film Festival has announced the "Dra(q)matic" program for the VII edition of SevilFest. The program, dedicated to performance art and self-expression, brings together three short films from three countries.
"Ademi" — Jamila Sakhari | 20 min. | Kazakhstan
The film by Kazakh director Jamila Sakhari tells the story of a performance artist named Ali. The stage is a refuge where Ali feels free, and the image he creates there allows him to express his identity. However, while Ali lives his truth on stage, his mother is forced to face the condemnation of society. Despite this, she continues to be her son's biggest supporter, even helping to make him stage costumes.
"The Queen's Illusion" — Erinç Durlanık, Ceren Özkanlı Samlı | 21 min. | Turkey
A joint project of Turkish directors brings to the fore the personal stories of five drag artists living in Istanbul: Gia, Pep IV, Cake Mosq, Ahsen Gönülce and Anna Tholia. The film tells the story of stage preparations, the human face behind the bright images and how difficult it is to engage in this art in Turkey today.
"Bad Diary" — Eldar Aslanov | 12 min. | Azerbaijan
Azerbaijani director Eldar Aslanov's film is based on conversations with Lady Slim, known as one of the first artists in the country to turn gender expression into art. The film explores the process of creating the image of Lady Slim and considers art as a means of self-expression. Despite the obstacles imposed by a conservative society, Lady Slim continues to make a place for herself both in her creativity and in her daily life.
