Russian Prosecutor General's Office bans Dalan Fund for supporting LGBTQI+ and national movements

The Russian Prosecutor General's Office has declared the activities of the Dalan Fund in the Russian Federation undesirable. The first criticism of the foundation was its support for LGBTQI+ people.

A press release from the Russian Prosecutor General's Office states:

"The foundation was created in 2024 ostensibly to implement programs and projects in the field of human rights. In fact, the organization carries out initiatives aimed at financing the LGBT community and anti-Russian media outlets. It promotes the anti-Russian rhetoric of Western countries throughout the CIS."

The watchdog was dissatisfied with the Dalan Fund's calling Russia an aggressor state and criticizing its foreign and domestic policies, as well as the country's leadership.

The press release from the prosecutor's office also states that the foundation's activities "pay particular attention to promoting separatist ideas under the guise of fighting for rights and social justice together with Russia's indigenous minorities."

Dalan Fund was established shortly after Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The Fund finances cross-cutting projects in 16 countries affected by Russian colonial rule. The Fund’s vision is to transform approaches to funding initiatives in a region where NGOs are at the forefront of the fight for civil rights and freedoms, amid chronic resource shortages.
