Avaz Hafizli chained himself

to the Prosecutor General's Office

Journalist Avaz Hafizli, a member of the LGBTI+ community, chained himself to the iron fence of the Prosecutor General's Office on September 8.

The journalist said that transphobic and homophobic blogger Sevinj Huseynova has threatened and insulted him and his family. Despite Avaz Hafizli's official appeal to the prosecutor's office and his verbal complaints at the meeting, no action was taken.

Protesting against this, the journalist, who chained himself to the gate of the Prosecutor General's Office, said: "The activity of the prosecutor's office in this country is negligent." According to the protester, the chain has a symbolic meaning, and the relevant authorities "put a chain around the necks" of citizens who file complaints with them.

Avaz Hafizli noted that Sevinj Huseynova and the prosecutor's office are responsible for any incident that could happen to him.

During the protest, Eldar Sultanov, head of the Prosecutor General's Office's Office for Documents and Appeals, approached Avaz Hafizli. Unable to control his emotions, the journalist said that his life is in danger and that he has nothing to lose. His only wish was to get information that at least an investigation had been launched into Sevinj Huseynova.

Eldar Sultanov told reporters that Avaz Hafizli's complaint was sent to the Nasimi District Prosecutor's Office for investigation. The protester said that the Nasimi District Prosecutor's Office is on vacation and no complaint has been received from him.

Avaz Hafizli also added that although no one knew about his complaint to the prosecutor's office, Sevinj Huseynova somehow learned about it and continued her threats. Afterwards, the prosecutor's office unlocked the chain and took Avaz Hafizli to the reception room.

It should be noted that journalist Avaz Hafizli attempted suicide on the night of September 4 after threats from Sevinj Huseynova.

Blogger Sevinj Huseynova has been posting and live streaming on her Instagram account since July this year, targeting the country's trans community. She used expressions degrading honor and dignity of the individuals and the LGBTI+ community in general, and called on people to murder them
