Trial will be held on the murder of Avaz Hafizli

On June 20, at 11:00, the Baku Court of Grave Crimes will hold the first hearing in connection with the murder of LGBTQ+ activist, journalist Avaz Hafizli.

In order to follow the trial, activists invited citizens, journalists and activists to join in the process on Facebook through the initiative group "Qıy vaar!". It should be noted that Avaz Hafizli was victim of hate crime, hewas strangled to death by his relative on February 22, 2022. Later it was found out that his penis was also cut off.

Although Avaz Hafizli repeatedly protested the death threats of homophobic and transphobic blogger Sevinj Huseynova against the community, saying that his life was in danger, no action was taken by law enforcement agencies.

According to ILGA-Europe's Rainbow Map of the last few years, Azerbaijan ranks last among 49 countries in Europe in terms of LGBTQ+ rights. There are regular attacks and murders of the community members in the country.
