Ban for musician celebrating Pride Week

In Türkiye, musician Gökçe's concert in Afyon Sandıklı was cancelled by the AKP mayor of the city.

Pride Month is over, LGBTI+ bans are not over. The last target of the government's anti-LGBTI+ policies in Türkiye was the musician Gökçe.  Afyon Sandıklı concert of musician Gökçe, who celebrated Pride Week on her social media account by saying "Love is love" in the past years, has been cancelled.

The AKP mayor of Sandıklı, Mustafa Çöl, scoured the artist's social media accounts to find her posts and had the concert cancelled. Çöl admitted the censorship on his own social media account:

“To the attention of our Sandıklı people  and our beloved Nation;

“The organisation we planned on August 11, 2023 was cancelled due to the guest artist's posts that included LGBT support and slandered our President, as a result of my personal investigations.

“As we always say, WE ARE THE CHILDREN OF THIS COUNTRY.

“ WE DO NOT ACCEPT anyone who harms our President or our sacred values!

“Let those who share this content not take the stage in Sandıklı, CANNOT enter from the borders of our district!

“I present to our beloved nation!”
