Lesbian DJ who performed in drag show at Olympic opening ceremony received death and rape threats

DJ Barbara Butch has spoken out about the death and rape threats she received after the Paris Olympics opening ceremony: “I have refused to be a victim my whole life: I will not be silent.”

DJ Barbara Butch, who performed in a drag show at the Paris Olympics opening ceremony, has revealed that she has been the target of an “extremely violent cyber harassment and smear campaign.” Butch’s lawyer said on social media that the lesbian DJ had been “threatened with death, torture and rape.”

Butch was among many queer artists and drag performers who took part in the four-hour ceremony, and the group briefly posed together at a table. Butch announced that she will take legal action against being targeted by right-wing politicians and social media trolls.

“Through my DJ work and activism, I have always promoted love and inclusivity. For me, even when the world is falling apart, that is what will save it,” the famous DJ said in a statement.
