US Defense Secretary shared anti-gay call

US Defense Secretary promotes pastor’s call for anti-gay laws

U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has shared and endorsed a CNN interview in which Christian nationalist pastor Doug Wilson calls for reinstating U.S. laws criminalizing gay sex. This was reported by Them

Hegseth, a member of the Communion of Reformed Evangelical Churches co-founded by Wilson, posted the video on August 7 with one of Wilson’s slogans. In the interview, Wilson said sodomy should again be a felony in all 50 states, falsely claiming such laws did not make the U.S. “a totalitarian hellhole” in the past.

Wilson, known for opposing LGBTQ+ rights and same-sex marriage, has also made controversial remarks defending aspects of slavery and promoting a Christian theocracy. Hegseth, confirmed as Defense Secretary in February, has previously been criticized for ties to far-right evangelicalism and for supporting policies like the military ban on trans people.
